Kari Kamiya, known as Hikari Yagami (八神 ヒカリ) in Japan, is Taichi's younger sister who helped him care for an Agumon when she was a toddler, having a sixth sense. She's sweet and good-tempered, but don't push her too far! She isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes in, and isn't afraid to sacrifice herself for the good of others. Regardless, she is a compassionate girl who always puts others before herself. Unlike the other seven Digi-Destined, Kari wasn't sucked into a vortex in the sky while at summer camp; she was home with a cold. This was a serious thing because she was once very sick as a younger child, and the experience left her with a weak immune system. Revealed to be "the eighth DigiDestined child", Kari is partnered to Gatomon and obtains the Crest of Light as she joins Tai and the others during their battle with the Dark Masters and Apocalymon. Kari admires Tai and is seen as an equal to T.K.
